(GHSL)?
The Global Hockey Select League is a competitive
hockey program utilizing a highly experienced, paid coaching
staff. We strive to foster advanced hockey skills, strong
work ethics, creativity, confidence, and good sportsmanship
in a safe, fun, environment where each player's potential
can become reality.

What do you
do for goalies?
Global Hockey is proud to announce that we have hired former
NHL goaltender Brian Eklund and his staff to run all of our
goalie skills in order to bring consistency to our goaltending
program. In addition each goaltender will be given 10 semiprivate
lessons with Brian and his staff from BE Goalies. Please check
out Brian's site at www.begoalie.com
Do
you have a consistent schedule?
Each family will be given a full 30 week schedule in August
that will list all games, practices, and skill sessions for
the whole season in order to make things as convenient as
possible for all of our families. For the 2008-2009 we have
switched our skill sessions to the weeknights, practices to
Saturdays, and games on Sunday.
What is the
difference between the AA and A Pee Wee Division?
Global hockey has been lucky enough to have well over 250
pee wee players tryout each year. Unfortunately, we have been
unable to place well over 125 players each year because the
league has been so competitive. Beginning in the 2008-2009
season we will have a 6 team AA division which will be the
higher division and a 6 team A division for those players
who need a little more development and time to make that jump
to the AA division.
Are all teams
balanced out?
Global Hockey does its best to try and make each team as even
as possible talent wise. After week 6 the coaches meet to
move some players around to different teams in order to keep
the competitive balance.
What is the coaching
philosophy at Global Hockey?
Global Hockey will emphasize play making and creativity. We
will discourage dumping the puck and chasing it around the
ice. Teaching positional play is easy. Teaching skills such
skating, puck handling, and creative decision making makes
the difference between a good player and a great one.
Will we have
to travel to other rinks for games, practices, or skills?
All Global Hockey practices, games, and skills, will take
place in our rink, Mark Bavis Arena in Rockland, MA. Travel
Hockey without the travel!
Who is
coaching the Global Hockey Teams and skills?
Global Hockey uses paid professional coaches. Please check
out our coach's page to see a list of our coaches and their
experience. Global Hockey is always striving to add highly
experienced coaches in order to make our program the best
in the area. We have former NHL players, College All Americans,
and high school coaches from the best programs in the state
coaching here at Global Hockey.
Do the better
players get more ice time than the other players?
All players will receive the same amount of ice time. There
are no power play units or penalty kill specialist. We want
each of our players to learn to play in all situations of
a game. At all levels we strive for each shift to be between
30-45 seconds in order to maximize the effort level and productivity
of each shift while allowing proper rest for the other lines.
How many
players will be on each team?
All teams will have 10 forwards, 6 defenseman, 2 goalies,
and 2 practice players. The reason we do 10 forwards is simple.
There is always at least one or two kids missing each week
for various reasons. Again, to make sure each player can go
hard every shift we want at least 9 forwards and 5 or 6 defensemen
at each game. Players get into bad habits when they are playing
the game tired.
Does Global Hockey allow players to play for other teams?
Global hockey does allow the players for other teams however
if a scheduling conflict does arise we expect 100% commitment
to Global Hockey. Our coaches are very good but even they
can't make you a better player if you are not here.
Does Global Hockey have Select Teams that compete against
EHF AA, Metro, and Select Teams?
For the 2008-2009 season Global Hockey will have a squirt
major, pee wee minor, pee wee major, bantam minor, and middle
school team that will compete against those teams. Tryout
times and information will be given out our league tryouts
in April.
